11th December 2008
A unit of the Paschim Banga Vigyan Mancha was installed in the college. Aound eighteen members took memebership in addition to two existing life members. Key speakers were Mr Ramesh Sarkar, Vice President of the Association, Cooch Behar District and Mr Ashim Saha, Secretary of Cooch Behar District.
5th December 2008
A workshop on Fruit Processing was organized in the college premises in collaboration with Uttar Banga Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Pundibari, Cooch Behar. Dr Aniruddha Burmon, principal stated the objectives of the programme, Mr Prodyut Paul, Lecturer, Post Harvest Technology, UBKV talked about the job opportunities in Fruit Preservation. Later the technical Staff of UBKV took charge of the main Workshop. Around a hundred students and teachers from neighbouring schools also benefitted from the programme apart from the staff of the Mahavidyalaya.
6th August 2008
A programme in connection with Hiroshima Day was observed in the college premises with the help of Paschim Banga Vigyan Mancha (West Bengal Science Society), Cooch Behar. The main speaker was Mr Amarendra Basak, Headmaster, Deochorai High School. Other speakers were Mr Ashim Saha, Secretary, Paschim Banga Vidyan Mancha, Cooch Behar District and Dr Aniruddha Burmon, principal, Bakshirhat Mahavidyalaya.

A. HISTORY:

It was the long cherished dream of the people of Bakshirhat, situated towards the north of Cooch behar district of West Bengal (India) near Assam border , to have a college in the Bakshirhat Block. In the month of June of the year 1999 an Organizing Committee was set up for fulfilling this goal. Applications were sent to the Higher Education Department, West Bengal and the University of North Bengal for permission to set up a college. Bakshirhat High School initially gifted six bighas of land to the Organizing Committee and later on around three and one-fourth bighas were bought from generous peoplefor setting up the college. Later on people from various walks of life camewith help of different kinds to set up the college. On 28th March 2001 an Inspection Team came from the higher Education Department to find out the possibilities to set up a college in Bakshirhat. Later on 24th of October, 2005 the government gave its final approval for the setting up of the college.


B. LOCATION:

Towards the north-east of the District Headquarters of Cooch Behar and at a distance of above 38 km from Cooch Behar town the college is situated near Asam border in the Bakshirhat (Tufanganj - II)Block. Two to three km from NH 31near Bhanukumar II GP the dream college is located.


C. AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

The college endeavours for:
i. the all round development of the students.
ii. social & democratic development consistent with local needs and demands.
iii. helping the youth to earn their first degree.
iv. enabling the youth to serve the society better by promoting the ideas of fraternity and national integration.
v. enabling the students to meet the future challenges of the society.
vi. creating visionaries of the future who would work with a missionary zeal.


D. PRESENT MANAGEMENT

The college is directly administered, managed and run by the Organizing Committee with the President at the apex of the College Organizing Committee.


LAND AND BUILDING

The college has an area of acre in which a one storeyed building stands.


HOSTEL

With Govt. grant the constgruction of a hostel building for the SC/ST girls have alaready started.


NATIONAL RECOGNITION

Efforts are being made to get recognition under sections 2(f) and 12 B of the University Grants Commission (UGC).


TEACHING STAFF

The college has a high-profile Teaching Staff. All the teachers are highly motivated, resourceful, talented, hard working, devoted and sincere, having attended a number of seminars/workshops/courses sponsored both by UGC and other agencies. They leave no stone unturned in trying to satisfy the analytical and ever curious minds of the students and always take personal care for the all-round development of the college.


LIBRARY

There is a good library having around three hundred books and two periodicals. There is also a Book Bank facility for the students. The process of cataloguing has already started.
